Celebrity Slimming Tricks - What Celebrities Say

The ‘no carbs after 5’ rule - Victoria Beckham

A super-skinny size zero (UK size 4), many argue that Victoria’s secret to staying slim is starvation, but that’s something that she’s always vehemently denied. Although naturally slim, Victoria stays in shape with a healthy balanced diet and regular exercise. She always eats under 2000 calories a day (the recommended daily calorie intake for women) and never eats carbohydrates after 5pm. Victoria is also a huge fan of Pu-erh tea, which is a traditional Chinese brew known to boost the metabolism and burn fat, and drinks three cups a day. When it comes to exercise Victoria has made no secret of the fact that she hates the gym and so she dances instead. She recently turned one of the rooms in her LA home into a dance studio and always dances in her high heels to keep her legs toned.

The ‘macrobiotic diet’ fan - Madonna

Madonna has always been in great shape, but in the last few years she’s become a complete fitness freak, and is rumoured to spend as much as four hours a day working out with a combination of yoga and gym workouts. She also follows a very strict diet and is a fan of the hugely demanding macrobiotic diet. The macrobiotic diet is a strict low-fat, high-fibre diet, and only organic fish, whole grains, vegetables, beans and pulses, are allowed. The macrobiotic diet and its philosophy were developed by a Japanese nutritionist called George Ohsawa who believed that a simple diet was the key to optimal health - the word ‘macrobiotic’ is of Greek origin and means ‘long life’. The macrobiotic diet is one of the most popular ‘celebrity’ diets and Gwyneth Paltrow, Courtney Love and Boy George have all done it.

The ‘everything in moderation’ diet. - Cheryl Cole

An enviable size 6 to 8, Cheryl firmly believes that you don’t have to miss out on your favourite treats to stay in shape. Although she eats healthily most of the time, she also allows herself a day a week where she eats whatever she wants; ‘I believe you should pig out once a week as if you eat healthily 80 per cent of the time, it’s fine to treat yourself for the other 20 per cent’, she says. On healthy days Cheryl eats well-balanced, low fat foods and always gets five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. Despite her healthy diet, Cheryl claims her svelte figure is mainly due to her punishing fitness regime and she keeps in shape with the vigorous dance routines that she performs with Girls Aloud. She says, ‘ When I’m on tour I’m dancing around for at least eight hours a day so any normal human being would drop weight from that’.
